How Camp Laurelwood Supports Different Types of Campers
Every child arrives at camp with their own strengths, needs, and personality. While Camp Laurelwood is not a therapeutic program, we are deeply committed to understanding our campers as individuals.
Some children need extra reassurance. Others benefit from additional structure or flexibility. Our staff are trained to recognize these needs and respond with care and intention.
Camp Laurelwood has a licensed mental health professional on staff who supports campers throughout the summer. This role helps guide staff training, provide perspective when campers need additional social or emotional support, and assist with thoughtful communication with families. While camp is not a clinical or therapeutic setting, having a social worker on staff strengthens our ability to respond calmly, appropriately, and collaboratively when challenges arise.
We work closely with families before and during the summer to understand what helps each child succeed. Open communication allows us to support campers proactively rather than reactively.
As a camp rooted in values and community, we believe growth happens when children feel supported, not pressured. Camp is about progress, not perfection.
