Honoring the Committment, Support and Generosity of Three Outstanding Members of the Laurelwood Community:

KEN YAFFEE has been a true cornerstone of the Camp Laurelwood Experience for nearly 30 summers. As a Camper, Counselor, Division Head, Athletic Director and Boys’ Head Counselor, Ken selflessly continues his role as Laurelwood’s most dedicated and beloved friend and colleague, as well as role model to generations of campers and staff alike.

HENRY M. ZACHS - The revitalization of virtually every building at Laurelwood (including interior/exterior repairs, new roofs, new siding, new lighting) would not have happened without the time, guidance and financial support of the Zachs Family. Their enduring commitment to Jewish Education through camping and at Hillel houses (Trinity College, UCONN, and Connecticut College) will continue to build a stronger Jewish community for generations. The Zachs Family is also committed to supporting the recovery efforts at Jewish cemeteries in the Greater Hartford area. Their philanthropy is appreciated by countless beneficiaries, and Laurelwood graciously accepts their support.

STU KATZ is celebrating 50 summers of Laurelwood involvement! He spent time as a Camper, Staff Member, and Board member; where he served on Committees for Scholarship, Marketing, Alumni and Development. He designed and funded the Katz Digital Media Center and maintains the Camp Laurelwood photo, document, and video archives.

The history and legacy of Camp Laurelwood is comprised of the life experiences that thousands of campers and staff have shared over the past 79 years. Whether it was scoring the winning basket in the big game, a first crush, or that moment of learning to solve problems independently, the countless memories generated by spending one or many summers are the best representation of our history.

Camp Laurelwood alumni are physicians, accountants, attorneys, actors, entrepreneurs, writers, teachers, professors, sales professionals, journalists, counselors, business owners, physical therapists, stay-at-home moms and dads, just to name a few. They live across the US, in Europe and Israel. When Camp Laurelwood alumni get together, the common experiences create an energy that transcends the differences in their ages or number of years at camp.

Considering a summer camp experience is a significant decision for parents and children. The athletic fields, swimming pools, lakes, and bunks all start to look the same after a while, so what makes Camp Laurelwood different? That difference is found in the passion of our staff, the commitment of our Board of Directors (the majority of whom are alumni), and the pure joy experienced by our campers every summer.
