Welcome Letter From The Director!

Dear Laurelwood Families & Friends,

I am extremely excited and honored to introduce myself as the new Director at Camp Laurelwood.  Many of you might know that I was the Assistant Director of Laurelwood in 2004-2005, but may not know that my mother attended CL along with many of my closest friends and family members.  This is not just another job for me – it is my dream - not just to be back at sleepaway camp, but to be here, at Camp Laurelwood.  I look forward to making “the Laurelwood Experience” the very best it can be for our campers, staff members, & families, and look forward continuing and growing Camp Laurelwood’s proud, 79-year tradition of “Fun, Friends, Forever”.

I am also very excited to introduce several new ideas and programs to further enhance the Laurelwood Experience. This year we will focus heavily on enriched programming and staff engagement.  By emphasizing staff leadership development, we will see an even greater positive role-model impact on our staff and camper relationships, further enhancing the development of valuable life skills in our campers.  In addition, by placing a greater emphasis on programming variety and development, we will provide our campers the opportunity to expand their horizons, challenge themselves, find their true passion(s), and excel at the activities they are most interested in.

Through curriculum planning, staff leadership development and survey feedback from our families (see below), we will create an even stronger athletic development program for our campers - encompassing focus, skill development, competition and fun. In addition, we are adding two new Gaga Pits this spring to support the launch of the all-new CLGL (Camp Laurelwood Gaga League).  All other areas of camp will be enhanced with more robust programming as well, including Arts & Crafts, Drama, Music, Nature and our Bonim program. (Check your email, our Facebook Page and our Website often for updates on our new and improved camp programming.)

I am also delighted to welcome Evelyn Cohen to Team Laurelwood. You might meet her at your local JCC, synagogue or elsewhere on the road!  Evelyn feels that she “grew up” at her local JCC, where she went to camp for several years before becoming a staff member. The former Director of Graduate Admissions at Springfield College where she worked for ten years, Evelyn is embracing her return to camp life.  She is excited to join the Camp Laurelwood Family and we are extremely happy to have her on board.

As if all of this wasn’t enough exciting news, I am very pleased to announce the official launch of our new website, officially debuting on March 3rd.  (However, you can get a sneak peek at the site now by going to www.camplaurelwood.org.)  The site has been completely redesigned from the ground up to provide our families with all of the information they need in a clean, engaging, easy to find format.  Some of the new features include an interactive map, content areas for Current Families, Prospective Families, Alumni and Staff, the Camp Store plus photos and videos galore!  Please feel free to explore and share the link with all of your friends and family to help them connect or re-connect to Camp Laurelwood.  We will also be hosting several open houses at camp and welcome you all join us as, as well as any new families interested in learning more about the Laurelwood Experience.

(Check the “Upcoming Events” section of our website for dates and times.)

Thank you so much for your help and I look forward to meeting you all.  Should you have any questions, please contact me.
